Gill Sutherland

Gill Sutherland studied English and journalism and spent the early part of her career in London. She was the sub/production editor for ‘Just
Seventeen’, then editorial assistant for John Brown Publishing and Bedford Square Press (publishing imprint of National Council of
Voluntary Organisations) and listings/review editor for ‘Time Out’. She also worked as page/supplements editor for the Oxford Mail and
Oxford Times and was senior lecturer (2012-14) in journalism at the University of Gloucester. She was production editor for the iconic
weekly music newspaper NME (1995-2001) and also for ‘Smash Hits’, the bi-weekly pop bible (1994-1995).

She came to the Stratford area for family reasons in 2000 and has since worked as senior journalist, magazine editor and arts editor for the
Stratford Herald and Focus monthly magazine. She has aimed to give Focus a fresh design and editorial vigour, developing social media
and procuring interviews with major theatrical personalities. ‘Herald Arts’ is now the go-to place for readers to find out what is happening in the area and the quality of its reviews and interviews.

Living in Stretton-on-Fosse, she has been involved with voluntary work including putting on shows in the local village hall as part of national live arts network, and chairs the Ilmington Parent/Teacher association.

Gill joined as Trustee in 2019
